Introduction
Purpose
This workshop focuses on understanding manufacturing with 3D printing, specifically Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). FDM builds parts layer by layer using heated thermoplastic, enabling the creation of complex designs with low cost and quick turnaround. You will learn the entire 3D printing process—from problem-solving and design to producing manufacturable, repeatable parts.
Context
3D printing, or additive manufacturing, transforms design and production by building objects layer by layer, offering greater flexibility and efficiency compared to traditional methods. Beyond prototyping, it’s widely used for final products, especially in industries needing customization and rapid iteration. This workshop at FIU provides hands-on experience to prepare you for real-world challenges, emphasizing scalability and production efficiency.
